Norwegian design has for a long time been following in the footsteps of Swedish and Danish design, not quite able to reach for the tops or to make its own way. But in today’s newspaper there was a clear optimism about the future of Norwegian design, as its seems we’ve had a breakthrough when the Swedish journalist Staffan Bengtsson launched the book Norway calling. This book contains the cream of the crop of Norwegian design, and I cross my fingers that this not only will make people more interested in Norwegian design, but that we as designers also will “wake up” a little and start making products that can compete in an international scale.
